In Cloud Accounting, there are various ways to key discount during transactions. Currently the system support percentage-based (%) and value discount.
*Discount function available at Sales and Purchase transaction only.
Percentage-Based Discount
You can provide percentage-based discount during transaction. For example, if you wish to provide a 10% discount on the selected product, just type in “10%” at the discount column of that product.
Example:
Product | Qty | Unit Price | Total (Before) | Discount | Total (After) |
EGG | 50 | 1.00 | 50.00 | 10% | 45.00 |
Value-Based Discount
You can provide value-based discount during transaction. For example, if you wish to provide a 10.00 discount on the selected product, just type in “10” (without % sign) at the discount column of that product.
Example:
Product | Qty | Unit Price | Total (Before) | Discount | Total (After) |
EGG | 50 | 1.00 | 50.00 | 10 | 40.00 |
Percentage-Based Discount + Value-Based Discount
The percentage and value-based discount can also work together. For example, if you wish to provide a 10% discount and on top of that another 10.00 discount, just type in “10% + 10” at the discount column of that product.
Example:
Product | Qty | Unit Price | Total (Before) | Discount | Total (After) |
EGG | 50 | 1.00 | 50.00 | 10%+10 | 35.00 |
It can also work the other way round where you wish to provide 10.00 discount first then on top of that another 10% by just typing in “10 + 10%” at the discount column of that product.
Example:
Product | Qty | Unit Price | Total (Before) | Discount | Total (After) |
EGG | 50 | 1.00 | 50.00 | 10+10% | 36.00 |
If you are thinking what the differences is between “10% + 10” and “10 + 10%” from the example above, you may refer to the calculation breakdown as follows:
Breakdown 1: 10% + 10
50 (Qty) * 1 (Unit Price) = 50 (Total Before Discount)
50 * 10% = 45
45 – 10 = 35 (Total After Discount)
Breakdown 2: 10 + 10%
50 (Qty) * 1 (Unit Price) = 50 (Total Before Discount)
50 – 10 = 40
40 * 10% = 36 (Total After Discount)
Additional Note:
You can have even more combination of discount other than the example shown. For example: “10+10%+10%”, “10%+5+10%”, “10+2%+5+3%” and so on.
Viewing the Discount Amount
If you wish to see how much discount is provided for each product in monetary amount, you can also drag “Discount Amount” from column chooser and put it into the grid. With this, you can know the exact discount amount immediately, especially useful when applying percentage-based discount or a combination of discounts.
Follow the steps below on how to pull out “Discount Amount”:
1. At any Sales or Purchase transaction, select your product and key in your discount.
2. Click on the “Column Chooser” icon.
3. A small box will appear.
4. Mouse scroll on the small box and look for a column call “Discount Amount”.
5. Drag and drop the “Discount Amount” column into the grid.
6. You can then see the “Discount Amount” column on the grid and display the discount in amount for that product.
7. Close the column chooser box. You can also drag and arrange the “Discount Amount” column on the grid according to your preference.
Total Discount
You can also provide total discount or whole document discount during transaction. There are 2 methods to do so.
Method 1: Without using Product
1. Create an Invoice and key in customer and product details.
2. If you wish to provide a total discount of 10.00 on this invoice. Key in as another line with “DISCOUNT” as the Description, Qty 1 and Unit Price -10.00.
*For this method you are not allowed to key in negative Qty.
3. You will notice the total amount will be deducted from 49.00 to 39.00.
4. For accounting purpose, you can also select which account code to post by dragging out “Acc. No.” from Column Chooser to select.
Method 2: Using Product as Discount
1. Create a Product Posting for discount purpose. Make sure to select your Discount account code for respective posting.
2. Create a Non-Inventory Product for Discount. Make sure Product Posting select the "DISCOUNT" which had created in step 1.
3. Create an Invoice and key in customer and product details.
4. If you wish to provide a total discount of 5.00, key in another line and select Discount product. Key in Unit Price 1.00 and Qty -5.
*For this method you are not allowed to key in negative Unit Price.
5. You will notice the total amount will be deducted from 49.00 to 44.00.
6. You can also check on the posting account by dragging out “Acc. No.” from Column Chooser. It should automatically select the posting account that you set in “DISCOUNT” Product Posting.
*For Method 2, product posting setup is optional. You can still perform total discount using product without it. The purpose of product posting is to automatically select the posting account when you select this “Discount” product and do not have to purposely select the posting account each time when you perform total discount.
